Safety with a Protective Order

Use these suggestions for safety after obtaining a protective order for you and your family.

1. If you or your children have been threatened or assaulted, you can request a protective order from the District/County Attorney’s Office.  If you are in Multnomah County there are advocates available at the courthouse located at 1021 SW 4th Avenue, Room 211.
2. Always keep your protective order with you and near your person.
3. Check with the police to make sure your protective order is in their database.
4. Call the police if your abuser violates the order.
5. If safe, inform family, friends, employer and neighbors that you have a protective order in effect.
6. Think of alternative ways to keep safe if the police do not respond immediately.
7. Contact the crisis line with questions regarding your protective order.
8. If your abuser destroys your protective order you can obtain a replacement from the court house where the order was granted.
