Safety on the Job and in Public

Use these suggestions to create a plan for when you are at work and out in public.

1. If safe, inform your employer of your situation.  Create a plan with your employer in case your abuser comes to your workplace.  Provide security officers with a copy of your abuser’s picture.
2. Ask for your name and phone number to not be published on your employer’s website.
3. Ask for your phone calls to be screened at work.
4. Have someone escort you to and from your car or always walk out with a friend if you don’t want to disclose your experience.
5. Use a variety of routes when going to and from home.
6. Identify a safety plan in case your abuser does follow you while in transit.
7. If you use the bus, develop a safety plan for waiting for the bus.  This may include taking an alternative route if possible.
8. Change the times and locations of the grocery stores, banks, gas stations, etc… from the ones your abuser knows you shop at.
